Why use running to lose weight?

Without a doubt running is quite simply an excellent way to burn calories and lose weight.

Only cross country skiing has been shown to burn more calories. However, running is a much simpler form of exercise and is far more accessible for most people. We don’t get much snow in Barnsley!

That’s why getting into running is one of the best choices you can make if you want to lose weight. The only thing you’ll regret is if you don’t even give it a try, or you don’t learn the best ways of losing weight with running.

Of course, many other forms of exercise can also be effective for losing weight but just not as effective as running. Running also has a tremendous impact on your life that other forms of exercise can’t match due to the huge amount of physical and mental benefits that you get.

The reason that running burns so many calories is that it requires the use of lots of muscle mass. The more muscle mass you use when doing an exercise the more calories you are able to burn.

Many of the largest muscles in the body are in the lower body which is why running uses around 60% of your total muscle mass and burns lots of calories in the process.

By running and using lots of muscle mass you are also able to burn more calories after your runs because your body needs to burn these calories in order to recover.

In addition to this you can maintain more muscle while losing weight from fat. This helps to maintain a higher metabolism which means that you’ll burn more calories all day long, even while you’re at rest.

Whereas overweight and sedentary people tend to feel sluggish and constantly tired, running provides you with much more energy and makes you feel more alert.

More energy means that you feel much better throughout the whole day and you achieve more in ALL areas of your life.

You can play effortlessly with your children, or do things with your partner or friends, and concentrate on enjoying yourself, rather than thinking how tired you are or watching from the sidelines.

You can be happier and more productive in your job, or you can do better with a work or home project, due to having much more energy and a fresher mind.

Even though your aim is to lose weight with running, you can still be MUCH fitter and healthier than people who are at their ideal weight or younger people. That’s the great thing about running, your health and fitness can improve very, very quickly.

When your fitness increases and your weight decreases you’ll also feel healthier and happier about yourself because you’re making big improvements to your life and feel great about doing so.

You’ll gain a tremendous amount of satisfaction and a sense of achievement by running and losing weight and improving your life in this way. This improves your self-esteem and confidence which also helps in ALL other areas of your life.
