Through helping 771 people with Get Active Bootcamp over more than 10 years, I’ve also seen what positive effect exercise can have on other people. I’ve seen how much better they feel and how much happier they become.

What you will find out at your first class is that you are made to feel welcome and are immediately put at ease. - You will receive expert help and advice from me, your coach James – I am right there for every second of every minute of your classes. You can always ask me for help and instruction
- You will exercise in a friendly environment – I am a friendly person and will help you as much as possible to get everything you want out of your classes. Other people from the group are also very supportive and are more than happy to help
- You will have a range of exercises that keep your classes interesting and fun – The time passes quickly when you do my classes because they are engaging and enjoyable. This variety of exercises also helps you develop all over body fitness, strength, and health

How Get Active Bootcamp works
Get Active Bootcamp is a 6 week period of exercise classes, with the next bootcamp starting on Monday 30th September.
Each week there are these classes available, where I recommend starting with 1 or 2 classes per week:
- Monday Circuits, 6pm – At Barnsley Academy (Postcode: S70 3DL)
- Wednesday Circuits, 6pm – At Barnsley Academy (Postcode: S70 3DL)
- Saturday Running, 10am – At Locke Park (Postcode: S70 6NF)
All classes are personalised to suit you. You go at your own pace, and I look after you so that you get the most benefit and most enjoyment from your classes.
It doesn’t matter at all where you are now. Most people are beginners when they start, and many people also want to lose weight. What’s important is that you make a start so that you can then get fitter, feel healthier, and move your physical and mental health in the right direction.
It’s also useful to know that most people who do my classes are aged 40 to 65. Both women and men do my classes.
I will help you every step of the way. You have personal access to me at your classes, as well as via email, Facebook, or telephone for when you need any help. I am more than happy to help you be successful.
Following each 6 week period of exercise classes, we go straight into the next bootcamp. Almost everyone keeps going with their classes which shows how beneficial and enjoyable they are.

- I’m a fully qualified and licenced UK Athletics Coach – This includes all over body conditioning for better fitness, strength, and health
- I’ve helped 771 people in Barnsley and the surrounding areas to get fitter, feel healthier, lose weight and enjoy their exercise in a supportive and friendly environment
- I’ve helped people from all walks of life – From complete beginners to more experienced exercisers, people wanting to lose weight, and people with health problems. I know that you too can exercise and make great progress
- I’ve been doing my classes for over 10 years now – During this time I have made every available Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday class (not one single class cancelled, just occasional time off for holidays). This shows that I am fully committed to helping people improve their fitness, health, and life, and that includes YOU
- I have over 1700 likes on my Get Active Bootcamp Facebook Page – This highlights again that I’m an established personal business and provide a high quality service

What’s the difference between joining Get Active Bootcamp and joining a Gym?
Virtually everyone joins a gym at some stage, although for the vast majority of people, a gym does not work for them.
It’s estimated that 67% of people who are members of a gym never actually go! They just continue to pay and waste their money every month hoping that someday they will start going.
One person who started my classes over 7 years ago and is still doing them, was a member of a gym for a year and only went once. That’s a very expensive gym session! So he cancelled his gym membership and joined my classes.
Everyone who does my classes has been a member of a gym in the past. Whereas they couldn’t stick with the gym (like most people can’t), they found that they could willingly and easily stick with my classes. Here’s why…

Be willing to overcome obstacles and excuses to improve your life
Get Active Bootcamp and my exercise classes are well established and are proven to be successful for people. My classes have been going for over 10 years with 771 people enjoying my classes and getting much fitter and healthier.
Having said this, there are lots of people who don’t do my classes who could literally change their life, if they would only turn up to their first class.
Some people are too scared to join my classes. They lack confidence and belief in themselves, so they suffer with much poorer health and fitness than they could have. They feel worse every single day, when they could feel much better.
If this sounds like you, then it’s time to get out of your comfort zone, expand your boundaries, and experience life and the opportunities you have around you more. There really is nothing to be scared of, which you will find out at your first class. You have everything to gain!
Some people don’t like to travel. So if the classes aren’t around the corner or within a 15 minute drive, they aren’t interested. This is a self-imposed limitation, because while someone uses that excuse, other people are turning up to my classes, loving them, and improving their life.
People travel from all areas of Barnsley to do my classes. People even travel from the surrounding areas, like Sheffield, Rotherham, Doncaster, Wakefield, Ackworth, and Huddersfield. If they can, then so can you!
So even if you need to travel a little to make my classes, why not do it? Why not make the commitment to getting fitter and improving your physical and mental health?
Also, factor in that if you had a gym membership that was around the corner but you barely go and don’t enjoy it, what good would that do for you? What good has it done you in the past?
Isn’t it worth travelling to a class you enjoy, that you really want to turn up to, and that gets you results you are happy with? Yes!

Here’s a helpful tip for you – Commitment v’s Motivation
Did you know there is a difference between commitment and motivation? Once you understand this difference, you can decide what you want to do from here with your exercise and whether you are going to move forwards with your life.
Motivation is short term and is more like a feeling. You might feel like exercising on a day so you do it. Or you don’t feel like exercising so you don’t.
The trouble with relying on motivation is that it depends on which side of the bed you get out of. So your exercise will be very inconsistent. For example, you may exercise for a while at the start of the New Year or in the run up to a holiday, but you never keep it up.
Many people wait until they feel motivated before they start exercising, and they end up waiting a long time! Meanwhile they are suffering from poorer health and fitness than they could have, and are missing out on the life changing benefits they could be experiencing.
Commitment on the other hand is much more powerful. It’s where you realise that you are important, and it’s important that you look after your body and mind by exercising consistently each week.
When taking off injury or holidays, I have exercised every single week since 1997. That’s not because I’m obsessed with exercise, but because I want to live a healthy life and be at my best and feel good.
So you make a commitment to yourself. This means rather than only exercising when you are motivated or feel like it, you exercise whether you feel like it or not. What you will find is that on days when you don’t really feel like exercising, yet you still do it, you will feel loads better for the rest of the day.
This also builds your confidence and self-esteem because you are now looking after yourself, and making your health and fitness and ultimately your quality of life a priority. This helps you and everyone else in your life that you love.

Get Active Bootcamp frequently asked questions
I would like to join your bootcamp but can’t make every week. Can I still join?
Yes. If for example, you have a holiday coming up or other commitment and you can’t make all 6 weeks, then you can still join and pay for the weeks you can make.
Just send me an email at james@getactivefitnesscoaching.co.uk, or call me on 07804 956966, and we can confirm what weeks you are making and how much to pay.
What if I can’t make the same class every week?
You may be in a position where you work shifts, or you sometimes have other work or family commitments, which means you can’t make the same day every week.
The good news is that your classes are flexible. For example, if you can’t make your normal Monday class, you could do the Wednesday class instead. Or if you can’t make your class one week, then you are welcome to get in an extra class another week.
Other people at the bootcamp do the same, and it works best all round to have a flexible approach for you when you need it.
What happens after each 6 week bootcamp?
Following each 6 week period of exercise classes, we go straight into the next bootcamp. Almost everyone keeps going with their classes which shows how beneficial and enjoyable they are.
The added benefit for you is that every 6 weeks you get to renew your commitment to your exercise and to yourself. This makes it easier to be consistent with your exercise and therefore helps you get the very best results.
I’m very unfit and overweight. Will I be able to do your classes?
Yes! My classes are suitable for complete beginners and upwards because the exercises are personalised exactly to suit you. This is much better than everybody of different fitness and abilities trying to do the same thing.
Doing personalised classes is how you get the very best results, as well as the most enjoyment.
You will then feel even more motivated, which means you look forward to doing your classes and you keep getting better and better results as you go along. So it all works together where you keep improving over time.
I’m so unfit. Will I be behind everyone else?
The person who is the furthest behind, is the person who does nothing, and just thinks about joining Get Active Bootcamp but does nothing about it.
The most important thing is to make a start. You can make excellent progress from there with your fitness, health, and feeling much better about yourself.
At my classes, you do NOT have to keep up with anyone else. Instead, you go at your own pace and you also push yourself as easy or as hard as you like. It’s a very friendly environment and there’s no pressure at all.
You focus on yourself at my classes and do what’s best for you. This is how you get the very best results and the most enjoyment.
I have problems with my knees, back, arthritis, etc. Can I still do your classes?
Many people who do my classes have a health issue, like with their knees, back, or arthritis.
With my classes you go at your own pace, and you build up your fitness, strength, and health. Then the fitter and stronger your body and muscles become, the less severe and fewer health problems you will have.
The worst thing you can do for any health issue is nothing because then you just deteriorate further. Many people join my classes and do small amounts of exercise at the start, but have then gone on to be capable of much more, and with their health issues feeling better or even disappearing!
What do I need to bring to my classes?
At your classes we are in a very nice space for exercise, and I have all the equipment needed.
So you can simply turn up in some clothes that you feel comfortable to exercise in. You can also bring a bottle of water, which most people do, for when we have breaks during the class.
There’s no need to overthink things or make things more complicated than they are. Just join Get active Bootcamp, turn up to your first class, and you will be extremely happy that you did.

Someone once said to me about my classes that they are for “normal people” which I took as a big compliment.
You won’t come to my classes and feel intimidated by the 20 or 30 year old somethings who are super fit with a great looking body. Instead, you find the everyday person who wants to better themselves and their life by getting fitter, feeling healthier, or losing weight.
There are all different shapes and sizes at my classes and nobody is bothered about what anyone else looks like. It also doesn’t matter what fitness level you are, or how old you are.
