Hi there, it’s James Porter here. When I started exercising in 1997, running was the first thing I did. Running had such a positive impact on my life and ended up changing my life.

I went from very little fitness and running on my own, to being in a running group which included several people who ran for Great Britain and someone who competed at the Olympics.

This also meant that I had the same coach, known for being one of the best in the country. So I learned from the quality athletes I trained with and from a high level coach.

I also completed several UK Athletics Coaching qualifications, as well as immersing myself in books relating to running, exercise, and nutrition.

During these years I became much fitter, much faster, and competed in races. Even more than this, I became extremely well qualified with the knowledge and experience I gained to help others like you achieve the very best from your running.

I’ve now been running for 27 years and I still love it. I’ve also helped 76 people from Barnsley over the past 15 years to get much fitter, faster, and prepare for a race with my Personal Running Coaching.

How your Personal Running Coaching works

With your Personal Running Coaching we meet up once a week.

During your first session, you can let me know more about any current training you are doing and what you want to achieve from your running. You may have goals relating to getting fitter and faster, or preparing for a race that matters to you, such as a 5k, 10k, half marathon, or marathon.

We will also complete your first running session to get you progressing in the right direction with your running straight away.

Then each week I will take you through a running session that is specifically designed to move you towards your goals.

During each session we will also discuss what to focus on over the coming week with your training plan and other helpful areas. You will know exactly what you are doing with your running each week and you will quickly see improvements.

With your Personal Running Coaching you will learn things like:

  • Training methods and strategies to get you the best fitness and speed and the quickest times
  • How to prepare for a race so you feel most confident and are ready to run to your best race
  • Different mental approaches so that you can train consistently each week, push yourself, and get the most enjoyment from your running
  • Tips on your running technique, including breathing when running
  • Advice on stretching (dynamic and static stretches), including when and how to use them
  • How to overcome any niggles or injuries quickly, and avoid them reoccurring

So with your Personal Running Coaching, you have your training session with me. This includes the actual running part, as well as getting help with the various aspects of running that you need.

I will also send you a very useful follow up email after your sessions. This summarises the session you’ve just completed and the times you ran, and the main areas to focus on over the next week.

Your coaching is all personalised to YOU to help you get the very best results from your running and the most enjoyment.

  • I’m a fully qualified and licenced UK Athletics Coach – This is based around running and also includes all over body conditioning for better fitness, strength, and health
  • I’ve helped 76 people with my Personal Running Coaching in Barnsley and the surrounding areas to get fitter, faster, and prepare for races, such as 5k, 10k, half marathon, or marathon
  • I’ve helped people of all running abilities – From complete beginner runners to advanced runners. I know that you too can excel with your running
  • I’ve been doing my Personal Running Coaching for over 15 years – During this time I have not cancelled a single session (just occasional time off for holidays). This shows that I am fully committed to helping people improve their fitness, speed, and running ability, and that includes YOU

How is your Personal Running Coaching different to joining a running club?

Doing your Personal Running Coaching with me is much more personalised than running with a club.

With my help, everything is personalised to suit you with your running which is how you get the very best results and most enjoyment. You also get specific and detailed running advice that’s relevant to you.

Plus, you are getting the help of a fully qualified and licenced UK Athletics Coach, with 27 years experience, who has helped beginner runners to advanced runners.

Some people who I help are also members of a running club. However, they still do Personal Running Coaching with me every week because of how much benefit and enjoyment they get from their sessions.

 

Do I need a Personal Running Coach?

It depends on what you want to get out of your running and how important those results are to you.

How much do you want to get fitter and faster? How well do you want to do with your races? How important is it to you to improve your physical and mental health?

When I first started running in 1997, my approach was to do it on my own. That’s what I did for the first one and half years running, and I didn’t improve anywhere near as quickly as I could have done and ended up getting injured.

Eventually I found a high level running coach, then completed UK Athletics Coaching qualifications, and also spent many years doing my own learning.

From my own experiences, and from the results and feedback of the people I’ve helped, I know for definite that you will do MUCH better with your running by getting my help.
