As someone who has helped thousands of people to lose weight I know that it’s affecting you much more than you realise, both physically and mentally.
Here’s how being overweight affects people’s lives, and what you can do about it.
Firstly, people who are overweight, even by a small amount, suffer from these:
- More likely to have depression
- More illnesses and health problems – Like infections, colds, heart attack, stroke, high blood pressure, and high cholesterol
- Higher risk of diseases – Like cancer, diabetes, and heart disease
- Early death due to poor health
- Lower quality of life
- Lower self-esteem and confidence
- Stigma of being perceived as lazy or weak willed
- Lower energy levels
- Lower quality relationships with their partner, children, or grandchildren, due to all of the above
The good news is that you have the power to make a massive difference to your weight and therefore make a massive difference to your life.
You are in control, and the choices that you make today will determine your future, either positively or negatively.
Here are positive choices you can make right now to help you take full control of your weight and your life:
- Commit to regular exercise – This should be something that is both effective and that you enjoy. Then you can keep it up over the long term, lose weight, and keep the weight off
Many people find my Classes a massive help with this, both getting great results and enjoying their exercise
- Develop a healthy diet – Most people try all sorts of diets over their lifetime and end up where they started or even heavier. Diets are not effective for long term weight loss and well over 95% of people will fail when using a diet
It’s much better to develop a healthy diet that you enjoy and then, like with exercise, you can keep it up over the long term, lose weight, and keep the weight off
- Increase your motivation – Motivation is an area that everyone struggles with from time to time, some more than others
Without the right motivation you won’t make the necessary changes to your life with exercise and diet to lose weight, and so you and your life suffers. Motivation is much easier with the right help and support
- Get the right help and support – No one can achieve great or worthwhile things like losing weight without help. As this is your life and it’s massively important to you, it makes sense to get the best help and support you can
With the right expert help you can get the best weight loss results, and with the right support you can keep motivated and enjoy everything that you do with your exercise and diet. For one to one help from me please see my Personal Training
WHAT CLASS MEMBERS SAY
I wanted to lose weight and look better. My confidence took a drop after having my four children and gaining weight. I was also out of breath and feeling lethargic.
I have now been doing the classes for nearly 2 years. I’ve lost a stone and half. I am feeling more confident in my body and how I look. I feel a lot fitter, have tons more energy, and don’t feel out of breath any more.
I feel generally happier. I can get nice clothes, and I look good and feel good. If you are thinking of joining then go for it. Don’t waste time, just do it! See and read more
I hadn’t invested in looking after myself for a few years as I’d been “too busy” with work and family life.
I started with the circuit classes which had an enormous impact on my physical and mental health. After about a year I decided to join the running classes. I started at the beginning, running for 2 minutes. I completed the Great North Run (half marathon) in the summer.
I’ve lost 3 stone and changed shape completely. I have a lot more energy, motivation and I feel much more positive about myself and life. I only wish I’d started sooner, I really feel that I’ve missed out in my life pre-classes. See and read more
I’ve been going to James’ sessions for the last 3½ years. It makes me feel good to know that I’m actually doing something very positive.
I would say that everybody is not competing against each other but working at their own level, and this is what we’re encouraged to do. Just do your best.
I certainly feel that mentally this is keeping me balanced and physically I feel really fit.
I would really encourage anybody that’s sitting there watching this to join the sessions. Everybody’s friendly, you can do it to your own ability, there is no need to feel embarrassed. Just do it. Just come and join us! See and read more
After turning 40 I put on a few pounds and my fitness was in decline. I do the two circuit classes and running class. The results are fantastic. I feel fitter than in my 30s and people have commented that I look much leaner.
I was out of breath after running less than five minutes. I’m amazed at my progress and can now do 10k in 48 minutes and half marathon in 1 hour 53 minutes.
If you are thinking about joining, I would say don’t hesitate. You can improve your fitness, at your own pace, and with friendly people around you who are nice to be with. It is ace!! See and read more
I’d got to 50 something and I’m not fit. So I’d got a choice. I could have grown old disgracefully and eaten lots of chocolate and got fat. Or I could do something positive which is what I chose to do.
4 years later I’ve got various 5ks, 10ks, 5 mile, 10 mile races, and 3 half marathons under my belt.
If somebody had said to me 4 years ago that I would be running half marathons I would have laughed. But here I am. I am fitter now than I have ever been.
Honestly you’ve got absolutely nothing to lose. Give it a go! See and read more
I was at my heaviest and recovering from a hip replacement which had restricted my mobility, making me feel frustrated and unhappy.
I’ve now been attending the classes for just over a year and I’ve lost 2 stones and I can honestly say I am now the fittest I have ever been in my life!
They’re a great bunch of people of all ages (I’m 61), all shapes & sizes and all fitness levels. Everyone is welcome. Joining the classes is one of the most positive and beneficial things I have ever done. Go beyond any fears you have and sign up!! See and read more
A year on I cannot believe the difference that I’ve made. I am stronger. I am fitter. I am healthier. I am sleeping better. The changes have been unbelievable.
From not being able to run for a minute last year I have just successfully completed the Leeds Abbey Dash 10k run.
The friends that I have met over this last year have been absolutely brilliant. It’s such a supportive group of people.
So please come along. We have loads of fun. And you just won’t look back. Take the plunge and join James’ classes. They are absolutely excellent. See and read more
I joined the exercise classes 3 years ago this month. At that time I was obese and hadn’t ever really exercised regularly.
Since joining the classes I have lost a total of 4½ stones!! I no longer need medication for my blood pressure as it’s returned to normal! My asthma is also more stable than before. My life now is much different. I feel so much better.
Just give it a go. James is very friendly, approachable and will give you all the support, advice and encouragement you’ll need. See and read more
